Mascots

The molys have been my mascots for almost twenty five years. My friend and I created them when we were children, and they have grown with me as my art as evolved. Whenever I feel like I am in a creative rut, have no clear direction of what I want to draw, or just feel like doodling, the molys are my instinctive ‘go-to’.

I think as an artist, it’s incredibly important to have a character, object, or concept that is individual to you. You need something that defines your style, embodies the feeling of your work and that people recognise as yours. This can of course bring brand recognition, but more importantly it helps to reinforce your sense of individuality as an artist.

Working solely for clients and creating a conveyor belt of commissions art can often feel draining. Having something that you can call your own can remind you of why you create art in the first place - for the enjoyment of being creative.
