A Fresh Studio

I’ve recently had the privilege of setting my studio up in a spare room. For a long time I was working on kitchen tabletops, or sitting on my sofa with my iPad propped up on a cushion on my lap - often with the television on in the background. Working in an environment that’s been designed solely to accommodate my artistic pursuits has done the world of good for my creative process and workflow.

As you can see, I am extremely minimalistic and organised (a big difference from the average artist). I work best when I have an area that is clean and fresh, and as few distractions as possible. A large desk with a lot of spare space allows me to spread out if required. A few plants, some pictures on the walls and a lot of natural sunlight is all I really need.

Although I understand that having a similar area is not convenient or feasible to the average freelance artist, even creating a small space for yourself can really help focus your creative energies. Even if you just make a small corner of your bedroom your ‘art’ area, I highly recommend carving out a space where you can escape to.
