Promotional Designs for

an Activity Book Company

I was tasked with creating a range of promotional images for KidzNest Press to be used primarily on online retailers. The client provided pages from the books, which I had to incorporate into various scenes (the vast majority of the work inside the books was completed by another artist). You can find a link to the colouring books below.

The drawings had to be bold, vibrant and colourful. I selected a bright, yet slightly muted colour palette to add a sense of childhood nostalgia to the aesthetic. I kept a consistent theme of warm browns, lush greens and sky blues to achieve this. I didn’t want to detract too much from the books that the children were holding and colouring in.

I also worked on a handful of example pages from inside the comic colouring book. These act as introductory pages that had to be exciting and intriguing, but also explain how the book works in a simple and easy manner.

I thoroughly enjoyed creating these. It was a fantastic excuse to let my imagination run wild and draw spaceships, dinosaurs, wizards, vampires, monsters and knights, amongst many other things. I created three characters - a young boy and girl and their pet cat, who act as guides, teaching the reader how the book works.

The scenes I created all follow a very similar theme. I wanted to invoke a sense of comfort, homeliness, friendship and strong family ties. Scenes set in living rooms, kitchens and characters working at tabletops all help to reinforce this idea. Although evoking a childlike quality, the primary purpose was to entice adults to purchase these books for their children, and to show how they would be used in day to day life.
