Woodland Scenes

I am often drawn towards woodland and country themed imagery. I think the rolling hills and sporadic forests of the Suffolk countryside have influenced me a lot, and I often take inspiration from long walks across the nearby meadows.

I try to capture that hazy, nostalgic feeling of youth and exploration, as well as incorporating mythical and fantastical creatures. I want my pieces to feel warm and inviting, with an element of danger.

I like to imagine that there’s a secret world of animals and monsters hiding beneath what can generally be seen. Rock creatures are a particular favourite, and the idea that they are hiding within plain sight, but are completely unnoticed is very intriguing.

Like a lot of my work, framing and composition is extemely important. I like to think that each image represents a comic panel that as been taken out of context. It’s up to the viewer to figure what is going on, or create their own interpretation. Each piece has a central character that the eye is drawn towards, and that character is framed by an interesting scenario or unusual set of circumstances. Of course, a fully fledged graphic novel is on the cards in the near future…
